‘I passed out and when I woke up at the hospital later, I found out that he had continued assaulting me’

A worker has been charged with premeditated attempted murder of his supervisor at the Dubai Court of First Instance.

Court records show that the incident took place on October 28 last year, when the 22-year-old Asian man sneaked into the victim’s room through a window. He hit him multiple times in the head with an iron rod, trying to kill him.

The incident was reported at Al Barsha police station.

The 31-year-old Asian victim, who is a foreman, said he went to sleep around midnight. “At some point later, the defendant took me by surprise when he hit me suddenly in the head repeatedly with a metallic rod. He just stood near my bed.”

The victim recalled how he tried to stand up and ask the defendant why he was hitting him. “But he kept beating me. I passed out and when I woke up at the hospital later, I found out that he had continued assaulting me even after I lost consciousness.”

The victim told the investigator that he could tell from the number and nature of the injuries that the accused wanted to kill him.

The building security guard recounted that he had heard low screams of pain coming from the victim’s flat. “I was on the job at 4am when I heard him. He lives on the ground floor but even after I called his friends for help, we could not get access into his place because the door was locked.”

The witness added: “As we went to the flat’s window, we spotted the suspect jumping out while holding an iron bar. He ran and disposed of the tool on the way.”

The police arrived shortly after and the victim was then seen lying in a pool of blood. “The victim was lying with his face down, bleeding profusely from his head and his subdued screams could hardly be heard. He was rushed to hospital,” the security guard added.

A policeman told the prosecution investigator that he heard from a worker (witness) that the defendant had requested for his passport from the victim before the assault.

The same worker (witness) led the policeman to where the defendant was. “We arrested him at a sandy yard nearby. He confessed he struck the victim repeatedly, claiming the supervisor had been mistreating him for a long time. The accused was also upset because the victim insulted his mother.”

The defendant admitted he sat in the victim’s room for about five minutes while the latter was in pain after sustaining the injuries.

The forensic report showed that the victim was left with a permanent injury.
The trial has been adjourned to July 16.
