The Route 2020 extension project cost Dh11 billion.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday inaugurated seven new metro stations of Route 2020.
On his official Twitter account, Sheikh Mohammed added that 47 months ago, an announcement was made regarding the new project to increase the stations of the Red Line of Metro Dubai.
“Dh11 billion is the cost of the project, 12,000 engineers and technicians, 50 trains, 7 stations and 125,000 commuters daily, and after 80 million working hours, we provide what we promised on time, as we promised,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
“We say what we do, and do what we say, this is Dubai,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

The Dubai Metro Route 2020 will take passengers from Dubai Marina to the Expo site in under 16 minutes.
The 15km Metro extension will link the Nakheel Harbour and Tower station on the Metro’s Red Line to the Expo 2020 site, passing through Dubai Investments Park, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan and Jumeirah Golf Estates. Route 2020 will not only facilitate the transport of millions of riders to the Expo site, but will also serve around 270,000 residents living in those fast-growing communities, according to the RTA.
All seven stations of the route 2020 will have smart fare gates that will sport 3D cameras as an added safety feature, a top official from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) told Khaleej Times earlier.
Unlike the current flap barrier gates at Metro’s Red and Green lines which only have sensors that open and close the gates at fixed intervals, the smart swing gate, with the 3D camera mounted on top, will scan the passengers from top to bottom and determine if the person would need more time to pass the gate.
