V Satish likely to replace Ramlal as BJP’s general secretary, say sources | India News

NEW DELHI: In one of the major organizational changes within BJP since the party got J P Nadda as its new working president under party chief Amit Shah last month, the party’s all important “general secretary (organization),” Ramlal has been replaced by the RSS on Saturday.
Sources said V Satish is likely to replace Ramlal in the BJP.
It is the Sangh which decides who it will lend BJP as the general secretary organization, but the name is vetted with the BJP leadership and then approved.
With Ramlal having been replaced, more organisational changes in BJP and in the Sangh are expected to follow.
Ramlal, who has been the longest serving general secretary (organization) in BJP since his predecessor Sanjay Joshi, has been moved out of the party and repatriated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
He will now function as the Sangh’s ‘seh sampark pramukh’ or co-convenor of all-India public relations, a post which he held before he joined BJP in 2009.
The decision was announced at a three-day meeting of RSS “pracharaks” at Vijaywada.
Arun Kumar, all India public relations chief, said, “He is no more in the responsibility of the BJP. He will be our all-India executive member looking after public relations. The decision was taken today at the conclusion of the three-day long meeting.”
“It is now for the BJP to decide on the next general secretary. We have followed our regular practice. These changes take place after some years, there is no specific reason behind this,” Kumar added.
The post of the general secretary of the organisation, or ‘sangathan mantri’, is the key link or the bridge between BJP and RSS. A full-time RSS ‘pracharak’ is appointed to the post who works on deputation in BJP till his repatriation.
In the past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sundar Singh Bhandari, K N Govindacharya and Kushabhau Thackaray have worked in the key position, which requires daily coordination between BJP and RSS.
There were four national joint general secretaries (organisation) under Ramlal — V Satish, Saudan Singh, Shiv Prakash and B L Santhosh.
The name of RSS functionary in charge of Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Alok Kumar was also doing the rounds as one of the likely names who could replace Ramlal.
Ram Lal, who hails from Uttar Pradesh has been the longest-serving general secretary. His colleagues laud him for being rooted to the ground and for calling frequent meetings. He was well-connected with the state units and kept the channels of communication open between the BJP and RSS.
