He filed a case against her after they divorced.
A woman has lost a UAE court battle against her former husband who was demanding that she pay the money and gold he gave her just so she could become his wife. The Federal Supreme Court rejected her appeal and upheld a ruling that ordered her to pay her ex-husband Dh65,000, local media reported on Thursday.
Court records showed that the woman confirmed she received a total dowry of Dh40,000, which was mentioned in their marriage contract.
On top of that, she also got Dh80,000 as ‘Zhaba’, which is considered part of the dowry. An Emirati tradition, Zhaba is an amount of money that a husband gives his wife.
When the couple got divorced, the man filed a case against his former wife, asking her to pay him back the dowry and Zhaba, along with 12 gold wedding sets, a watch and a ring – but she refused to do so.
The Court of First Instance rejected her appeal, and the appeal court upheld the decision that ordered the woman to pay her former husband Dh65,000, along with other fees.
