The Umm Al Quwain Police have launched a hunt for a group of motorbikers who performed stunts on Ittihad Road at the entrance in the emirate.
Videos of the young men doing the dangerous wheelie went viral on social media and shared with the traffic police.
Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, director of traffic and patrols department of the UAQ Police, said they have tracked the location and timing of the incident from the videos shared.
“The videos will be verified through the surveillance cameras installed on the road, and the erring motorbikers summoned and fined for flouting traffic rules and putting the safety of road users’ at risk.”
A motorist’s wife made the videos of the bikers with her mobile phone while the family was travelling from Hamriyah in Sharjah towards Salamah in Umm Al Quwain on Tuesday at 10.15pm.
“We were surprised by the motorcyclists performing dangerous stunts in the middle of the road, while riding on the front wheel.”
The youths hampered the traffic flow, as the other drivers could not overtake them, he added.
“One of the motorcyclists lost balance as his bike veered off and he was about to fall in the middle of the road.”
Col Aran said they will deal with zero tolerance with any driver or motorbiker involved in such dangerous practice.
“Drivers and motorcyclists must respect the traffic rules and regulations and not endanger people’s safety,” he said, urging the public to report such reckless violations to the police on 901 and 999.”
