According to reports in Daily Mail, Griffiths had Googled ‘how to make a friend’ before approaching the girl who as she walked to and from school.
Manchester Magistrates charged Griffiths with two charges of sexual assault against girl who was due to sit her mock A-Level exams. The court heard that the girl, a would-be Oxford student, burst into tears when Griffiths touched her the second time, and went to police.
The teenage girl said the encounter caused her mental trauma and she was unable to sit her mock exams, and her application process to Oxford University was hindered.
In a statement to police, she said: “I felt extremely anxious in the following weeks, often breaking down into tears. I was completely unable to walk anywhere by myself without being overcome by fear.”

He claimed he was a ‘shy, anxious and awkward’ teenager who had clumsily approached the girl in an attempt ‘to make a friend but the words didn’t come out’. Griffiths is banned from contacting the victim for 12 months under the terms of a restraining order.
