From its foundation, Shams has aimed to be a world-class hub where creative and media businesses can grow and thrive.
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, on Monday inaugurated the Sharjah Media City (Shams) headquarters in the emirate’s Tawi Musnad area.
Attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the inaugural ceremony traced the milestones that Shams has crossed since it was launched in 2017.
Dr Khalid Omar Al Midfa, chairman of Shams, said: “The inauguration of the headquarters coincides with Sharjah’s celebrations of its recognition as 2019 World Book Capital. This emphasises the role of the emirate in promoting the importance of books across sectors, including science, art, knowledge and media.”
From its foundation, Shams has aimed to be a world-class hub where creative and media businesses can grow and thrive. Today, it covers diverse sectors including corporates, media monitoring, digital content, TV and radio broadcasting, film shooting, film production, e-commerce, art, entertainment and other activities. Sheikh Sultan toured the new headquarters; visited the business centre for its clients; and was briefed on the services that the freezone provides.
He also watched a short documentary highlighting the various initiatives that Shams had rolled out since it started its operations. It presented several Shams activities that have made a mark in the indusry, from an e-gaming platform to the UAE Entertainment Experience to the freezone’s real estate arm, among others.
