The house-to-house drive comes as part of the ministry’s annual awareness campaign on seasonal flu which runs till the end of January 2021.

Senior citizens will receive flu jabs for free at their homes, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced. The national drive to administer seasonal flu vaccines to senior citizens will “safeguard their health and safety”.

The house-to-house drive comes as part of the ministry’s annual awareness campaign on seasonal flu which runs till the end of January 2021.

Ten primary healthcare centres are taking part in the initiative:

>Ajman: Musheiref

>Umm Al Quwain: Al Khazan, Falaj Al Mualla, Al Salamah and Al Raffa

>Ras Al Khaimah: Julphar, Saif Bin Ali Al Khatiry, and Ras Al Khaimah centres

>Fujairah: Al Khulaibiya and Al Faseel

In Sharjah, the Primary Health Care and Sharjah Social Services Department have teamed up to offer the service.

Dr Hussein Abdul Rahman Al Rand, assistant undersecretary for the MoHAP’s Health Centres and Clinics Sector, said protecting the health of senior citizens is a top priority. “The ministry’s medical teams have already begun visiting senior citizens’ homes to give them the flu shot and offer the necessary healthcare as they are with their families. The teams adhere to all precautionary measures taken nationwide to combat the spread of Covid-19,” Al Rand added.

Dr Aisha Suhail, director of Primary Health Care Department, said the seasonal flu shot is “very safe, effective and helps prevent flu infection with a high success rate”. “It is upgraded annually to provide better protection against common viruses that cause the disease.”

The ministry earlier announced that it has rolled out a new vaccine that has been designed to protect against the four most common strains of the flu virus: two strains of influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) and another two of influenza B.
