SDC head says Erdogan seeks Syria's division, Egypt is Arab's support in defense

CAIRO – 10 September 2019: Riad Drar, the joint chairman of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), has stressed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan seeks to divide Syria and impose some kind of a demographic change.

In a Wednesday interview with Egypt Today, Drar said the Arab League remains silent regarding Turkish violations and threats, except for Egypt, pointing out that Egypt is considered the support of Arabs in all their defenses.

“We have responded to all the security measures regarding the establishment of the safe zone and Erdogan has no argument to infiltrate our regions. But if he carries out his threats, the people of the region in northern and eastern Syria, along with the SDF, will surely resist him,” Drar said in earlier press remarks.

Erdogan threatened on Saturday that “Turkey will implement its own operations plan if Turkish forces do not control the safe area” in northeastern Syria.

The Syrian Democratic leadership called on the international community and all countries that took part in the war against ISIS to put an end to Erdogan’s threats to avoid a possible impending humanitarian disaster.
