Saudi Prince Donates SR50M To Restore Historic Buildings In Jeddah

Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, donates SR50 million to restore 56 historic buildings in Jeddah, which is on UNESCO list of world heritage sites.

The donation covers the first phase of restoring historic buildings characterized by an old architectural style.

This is a contribution from the Crown Prince to support the project and protect historic sites and renovate them in line with the UNESCO requirements for registering Jeddah in the world heritage list.

The directive of the Crown Prince also states that renovation must be carried out by Saudis under the supervision by technical experts.

He has also instructed the Ministry of Culture that the design should be in line with the old architectural style of Historic Jeddah, as some of these buildings are over 500 years old.

Some 400 buildings in the old Balad district were on the UNESCO’s list in addition to 200 other buildings in the buffer zone around them.
