Six-time champions Al Duhail will seek their second win of the QNB Stars League (QSL) season when they take on strong Al Rayyan this weekend.

The match will take place at the Al Janoub Stadium on Sunday and the kick-off is set for 7.05pm.

In their two previous meetings, Youssef Msakni-led Al Duhail managed to win one match before a brilliant comeback by Al Arabi spoiled their chances in the second round.

One of the leading title contenders to lift the ‘Falcon Shield’ this season, Al Duhail’s chance of winning in the second round of QSL were dented after Al Arabi’s Icelandic international Aron Gunnarsson scored a brilliant goal to cancel out Youssef Msakni’s opener.

Earlier, in the opening round, Al Duhail secured a 2-1 win over Qatar SC.

Al Duhail have collected four points following these results and are placed fourth in the points tally depending on the number of goals they have scored.

Ahead of their key clash, Al Duhail’s star midfielder Edmilson Junior admitted that it won’t be an easy task against the eight-time title winners Al Rayyan.

“Certainly, it won’t be an easy game. Al Rayyan is a big team in the Qatar League and are working hard to win the title. I think fans will enjoy a strong performance. It’ll be a good game because both teams play offensively,” the Belgian said.

However, Edmilson is confident that Rui Faria’s Al Duhail will prevail in the weekend blockbuster.

“Difficulties exist in every game, but the ability to win comes from the players’ determination and successful implementation of the plan drawn up by the technical staff as well as performance on the pitch. All these factors can help Al Duhail win this contest. If we can give our maximum, we’ll be able to defeat Al Rayyan,” He said.

Apart from the Al Duhail – Al Rayyan clash, there are few other exciting matches also lined up for the third round.

Tomorrow, Al Khor meet Al Ahli (16:55, Al Janoub Stadium) and Umm Salal will face Al Arabi (19:05, Al Sadd Stadium). On Saturday, Al Shahania meet Al Wakrah (16:55, Al Janoub Stadium) and Qatar SC will face Al Gharafa (19:05, Al Sadd Stadium).

The third round fixture between Al Sailiya and Al Sadd has been postponed to September 24 due to the latter’s AFC Champions League second-leg quarter-final against Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr which takes place in Doha on September 16.
