Pompeo urges UAE to ‘keep the momentum going’ in quest for peace in the region and praises ‘wonderful hospitality of Emirati people’.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in the UAE on Wednesday part of a Middle East tour following a US-brokered deal on normalising relations between Israel and the UAE announced on August 13.

Pompeo tweeted that he had met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s National Security Advisor.

He said he had ‘congratulated them’ on the historic peace treaty with Israel and discussed building regional peace and stability, including supporting a ceasefire in Libya and Gulf unity.

Pompeo added in a separate tweet: “Thanks to the Emirati people for their wonderful hospitality. The United Arab Emirates made history and now we have to keep the momentum going.

“It has been a productive journey to advance peace and prosperity.”

He earlier visited Bahrain as part of his tour.
