PCB reacts to insensitive tweet after Sarfaraz’s sacking – News

Sarfaraz Ahmed has been asked by the PCB to regain form in domestic cricket.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) apologised after posting an insensitive tweet moments after wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed was sacked as captain from all formats, with immediate effect.

The PCB, through their official Twitter account on Friday, tweeted a GIF of batsman Fakhar Zaman dancing along with other players of the national team while Sarfaraz is leaving the scene.

The tweet was posted as a reply to the Twenty20 (T20) World Cup’s official Twitter account with the celebration emojis.

However, the PCB later apologised for this post stating the timing of the tweet was wrong. Clarifying their tweet, the board wrote: ‘This was a pre-planned post as part of the one-year to go #T20WorldCup promotional campaign. The timing of this post clashed with the captaincy announcement for which the PCB offers its regrets’.

Following removal of Ahmed, top-order batsman Azhar Ali is set to take over Pakistan’s Test reigns while batsman Babar Azam has been named as captain of the T20 side.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, who has also been dropped from the side ahead of Australia tour, has been asked by the PCB to regain form in domestic cricket, according to Cricket Pakistan.
