Northwestern coast development plan displayed to PM

CAIRO – 13 July 2019: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Saturday with the committee in charge of preparing the Integrated Strategic Plan for Northwestern Coast Development to be implemented in the area stretching from Alamein to Saloum.

The committee consists of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Areas, Matrough Governor, the National Centre for Planning State Lands Usage (NCPSLU), the Tourism Development Authority (TDA), and the General Authority For Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).

Representatives of the housing ministry presented the status of the area including the possible uses of lands, the existing built-up areas, the existing and potential land reclamation zones, and the water, mineral and tourism resources.

The officials discussed the potential areas to build new cities – like the case of New Alamain that is still under construction – and to establish tourist projects. The goals of that strategic plan are job creation, attraction of residents and investments, achieving development for citizens living in that part of the country, and taking advantage of the resources available there while preserving the environment.

One major goal of the plan is narrowing the economic and social gap between the urban areas stretching on the shore and the bedouin communities dwelling the desert zones. The plan is part of Egypt 2030 Vision and 2052 Vision aimed at achieving development in all realms.
