Here’s how a CID team caught him red-handed.

An Arab man has been arrested for promoting and selling fake currencies on social media, the Ajman Police reported on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team swung into action and set up a trap for the man, who was selling counterfeit US dollars at half their value on Facebook.

Lt Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, director of CID, said that a team was formed to investigate the case and arrest the accused.

The team contacted the man and struck a deal to buy $20,000 from him for Dh37,000.

The 30-year-old Arab man arrived in Al Rashidiya area with fake US dollars, and white papers in the shape and size of $100 currency which he used to trick his victims.

The police arrested the man red-handed, and referred his case to the public prosecution after he confessed to his crime during police investigation.
