Lok Sabha Speaker, MPs take part in Parliament cleanliness drive | India News

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday launched a two-day Swachhata Abhiyan (cleanliness drive) in Parliament House Estate. The Speaker along with Union ministers and MPs participated in the drive this morning.
Addressing the event, Om Birla said that the commencement of Swachhata Abhiyaan in Parliament House estate is an endeavour to spread the message of Swachhata envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi.
Observing that the Swachhata Abhiyaan was launched by PM Modi to coincide with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Om Birla said that members of Parliament are the representatives of 130 cr people of India in Parliament, the ‘temple of democracy,’ and have an important role to spread the awareness.

Earlier, Rajnath Singh remarked that this is the first time that such a Swachhata Abhiyaan has been intitiated in Parliament House and congratulated the Lok Sabha Speaker for this initiative. Singh further observed, “Swachhata Abhiyaan has now become an ‘andolan,’ and people across the country have now become more aware about the important of cleanliness.”
The two-day Swachhata Abhiyaan (special cleanliness drive) in Parliament House Estate is being held on 13th and 14th July, from 9-10:30 am. For this purpose, the estate is being divided into seven sectors and nodal offices have been designated to coordinate the work.
