Liverpool manager praises referee Stephanie Frappart

CAIRO – 15 August 2019: It was a historic night in Istanbul when Liverpool defeated Chelsea on penalties to win UEFA Super Cup title at Vodafone Park as French referee, Stephanie Frappart, became the first female referee to officiate a major men’s game.

Frappart, assisted by two female assistant referees, ManuelaNicolosi and Michelle O’Neill, produced a brilliant performance according to Liverpool manager, JugenKlopp, despite she disallowed a penalty for Liverpool and awarded a controversial penalty for Chelsea that allowed them to score their second goal.

“They were good, they were really good. There was pressure on them like hell. It was an historic moment and they stayed themselves, stayed calm and did what they had to do in a very difficult and intense game.” Klopp said.

The French referee is one of the best female referees in the world and she officiated 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands in July.

Klopp continued “I couldn’t have more respect to be honest. It was a really brilliant performance.”
