Her mother left her in the care of an orphanage in Kerala.
Abandoned at birth, a 35-year-old Italian woman of Indian origin finally tracked down her biological mother after a 9-year long search.
Navya Sofia Dorigatti was born on March 31, 1984, to an unwed mother who abandoned her at an orphanage in Kerala’s Kozhikode district 35 years ago. An Italian couple – Thisiyana and Silvano Dorigatti adopted Navya from the orphanage when she was two years old. Navya is now an Italian citizen and is married with two daughters.
When she turned nine, Navya she realised that she did not look like her parents and discovered she was adopted from an orphanage in Kerala. Thus began her search for her mother.
For nine years, Navya could not find anything about her mother. Finally she turned to social media this July and posted a small video comprising a brief post about herself and photos from her childhood. The video was noticed by civil police officer (CPO), Rijesh Pramod, of the Chevayoor police station who helped Navya find her mother.
Although Navya is yet to meet her mother, she spoke with her on phone and discovered she is living in the neighbouring district with her husband and children born to him. “If the world comes to know that my mother had a child before her wedding, it would only cause her hardships. I understand that. I would soon come to Kerala. Not to see my mother. But to meet those who helped me find her,” Navya was quoted as saying in Manoramaonline.
