Dubai residence visa holders are still required to have an approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.

In-bound passengers arriving at Dubai International (DXB) and holding residence visas issued in other Emirates must need a pre-travel approval from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) to return to the country, a Dubai Airports spokesperson told Khaleej Times on Wednesday.

“According to new travel requirements, holders of residence visas issued in other Emirates need approval from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship to return to the country,” the spokesperson said.

However, Dubai residence visa holders are still required to have an approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) to return to the UAE.

Dubai Airports issued this statement in response to a query from Khaleej Times about the status of several stranded passengers in the arrivals terminal of DXB on Wednesday afternoon. Sources at the Consulate General of India in Dubai and the travel sector said at least 280 passengers from various destinations were left stranded at the airport due to this new policy update.

Neeraj Agarwal, Consul – press, information, and culture at the Consulate General of India in Dubai, said approximately 280 passengers are stranded at DXB Terminal 1 and 2. “A majority of the 280 passengers are Indians. Unconfirmed sources have also said a similar number of passengers are stranded at Terminal 3 as well. We believe these passengers, with residence visas of other Emirates, have landed in Dubai,” said Agarwal. “We have also received confirmation that the passengers will be released from the airports today,” he added.

The Consulate also updated the revised travel regulations on its Twitter page, requesting all passengers to take note of these changes to avoid inconvenience at the airports.

Airport officials have also confirmed that ‘some passengers’ are experiencing a delay in the arrival process at DXB. The official said: “Dubai Airports can confirm that some passengers are experiencing a delay in the arrival process at DXB this afternoon due to an update in travel regulations in line with the directives of UAE authorities.”

“Dubai Airports is working with government authorities and other service partners to ensure the comfort of our passengers and resolve the situation as soon as possible,” the spokesperson added.
