The tourist had arrived in the country two weeks ago.
A tourist in the UAE was airlifted on Sunday after his hot air balloon exploded and collapsed in Sharjah’s Al Badayer area.
The 54-year-old African tourist had arrived in the country two weeks ago to enjoy the desert safari, a relative said.
Police said they received a call at 6pm, following which a team of emergency vehicles was dispatched to the site. They coordinated with the air wing affiliated to the Ministry of Interior to rush the tourist to the nearest hospital, following which the injured man was taken by helicopter to Al Qassimi Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment in the ICU.
Initial investigations revealed that the balloon went down because of a technical fault, the police said. The investigation is ongoing.
This is the third incident in the Al Badayer area. Two Indians had died while three Arab women were injured after their quad bikes collided during a safari.
More than 20 incidents involving quad bikes have been recorded in the Al Badayer and other safari areas in Al Madam, the police added.
