Going to ‘diwaniyas’ bad for health

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 12: Professor of Sociology at Kuwait University Dr Maha Al-Sagari has conducted a study about the negative impact of Kuwaiti men staying in diwaniyas for a long time, reports Al-Qabas daily.

According to the report, most Kuwaiti men consider diwaniyas as part of their life, though staying in diwaniyas for a long time leads to obesity and other chronic diseases among them due to smoking.

Several respondents in the study affirmed that they started smoking as a result of their companionship with smokers in diwaniyas. It recommended alternative ways for Kuwaiti men to spend their free time and stop wasting long hours in diwaniyas by doing useful activities that will contribute to improve their health.

The study reiterated that citizens 45 years old and above complain about the negative effects of diwaniyas on their health compared to the younger ones
