A baby born aboard a train in Ireland has been offered free train travel for 25 years by Irish Rail. The baby girl was born on a train traveling from Galway to Dublin where her mother who went into labour suddenly.

An Irish Rail spokesman said, “All under 5’s travel for free, and we are offering the baby girl another 20 years till age 25. Dr Devine, who is from Donegal, said he was on his way to a conference when the train suddenly came to a halt in Kildare. Admitting he was “terrified”, Dr Devine told Morning Ireland, “I just said, ‘Hi Guys, I’m a GP, I just heard what’s going on. Do you need a bit of help?’ And they were happy to have an extra pair of hands,” according to MSN reports.

At the time the woman was already being helped by three women, an American nurse, an Irish nurse in her 20s and another woman passenger. The doctor added that the only equipment he had was a pair of plastic gloves. “It was a key moment when the baby came out, it took a couple of seconds but she finally let out a big cry and so we knew everything was okay,” he said.

The mother and the baby were taken to the hospital as the ambulance crew arrived almost immediately after the delivery.
