GCC prosecutors, top attorneys okay prosecutions’ joint rules

MUSCAT, Oct 16, (KUNA): Kuwait’s First General Attorney Sultan Boujarwa said on Wednesday that he and his GCC peers approved joint cooperation rules for coordination among public prosecutions of the member states. In remarks to KUNA, Boujarwa said today’s meeting “crowned sessions that had been held by committees specialized in public prosecution for a year, serving the objective of cementing the common GCC action.”

He added that the conferees also endorsed joint bylaws for inspection of public prosecutions and child protection during interrogations. The Kuwaiti delegation at the meeting was headed by justice Dherar Al-Asousi, the General Prosecutor. In a statement inaugurating the meeting earlier today, Omani General Prosecutor Hassan Al-Hilali said the world is currently witnessing increase of cross-border crimes where conventional means and old regulations have proven no longer effective. “However, overhauling the legal tools must not be at expense of individuals’ rights in the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council,” Al-Hilali said. The GCC was established in the early 80s to cement cooperation among Kuwait, Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, in various fields and sectors including the legal domain. They have so far unified regulations and rules at diverse levels.
