England suffers first loss at EURO qualifiers in 10 years

CAIRO – 12 October 2019: England lost 2-1 to Czech Republic on Friday night at Sinobo Stadium in Prague during UEFA EURO 2020 Qualifiers.

England suffers their first defeat in the qualifiers in 10 years as their last defeat came in 2009 against Ukraine.

England had a good start at the game and scored the opening goal after five minutes by Harry Kane from the penalty spot but the home team fought back and equalized the score by Jakub Brabec four minutes later.

During the second half, Czech substitute, Zdenek Ondrášek, secured the home team’s victory as he added the winning game only 10 minutes before the final whistle.

“We’ve had a lot of plaudits but we’ve always maintained that there’s a lot of work to be done to be a really top team, I think tonight was clear evidence of that.” England manager, Gareth Southgate, said after the game.

England and Czech Republic share the top of the table, 12 points each but England played only five games while the Czech team gained the 12 points from six games.
