Cyclists who flout traffic regulations sully the aesthetic look of the city, and endanger their own live.
A total of 269 bicycles, including 30 e-bikes, were caught violating traffic rules by Rafa’a Police Station in just one week during a recent campaign. The road safety drive was carried out by the Rafa’a Police Station in cooperation with the Dubai Municipality.
The violations included riding bicycles in illegal zones on main roads, not wearing the prescribed clothes and helmets, leaving the bikes at traffic lights and riding in the wrong direction of the road.
Brig Gen Ahmed Thani bin Ghalita, director of Rafa’a Police Station, said that 239 bicycles and 30 e-bikes were nabbed in the Rafa’a Police Station area. Most violations were detected in Al Karama, followed by Al Souq al Kabeer (the big market), Al Rawla, and Al Mankhool areas.
