The suspects include a couple who defrauded people by offering to provide domestic workers when international borders were closed due to Covid-19.

A couple who defrauded people by offering to provide domestic workers when the Covid-19 related travel restrictions were in place was among 47 people arrested by the Dubai Police.

The police managed to arrest 47 members of 20 African gangs for various cyber crimes under an operation titled Crime of Shadow, an official has said.

Maj-Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, assistant commander for Criminal Investigation Department, said the crimes committed by the gangs include cyber fraud, extortion, blackmailing, impersonation and theft.

He warned the public against clicking on the links available on dating apps and social media to protect themselves from cybercrimes.

According to Maj-Gen Al Mansouri, the couple on their social media posts claimed that they can recruit domestic workers for the needy even when the borders are closed. They managed to defraud many by taking money for such recruitment, which never happened. The police received 46 complaints regarding the same crime.

Al Mansoori warned the public from having conversations with unknown people on social media or opening links or messages from unknown people.
