Airport suspends operations.

Several flights between Dubai and Manila on Tuesday have been cancelled following a 12-hour closure of four terminals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in anticipation of strong winds brought by Typhoon Kammuri.

Four Emirates flights between Dubai and Manila were cancelled. “Due to the passage of Typhoon Kammuri across northern Philippines, Emirates flights EK332/333 and EK334/335 between Dubai and Manila on December 3 have been cancelled,” an Emirates spokesperson told Khaleej Times on Monday.

“Customers connecting to these flights in Dubai will not be accepted to travel at origin,” the spokesperson added.

Typhoon Kammuri (local name Typhoon Tisoy) has made landfall, battering Southern Luzon and the Bicol region on Monday evening, while Metro Manila has been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 as the typhoon is on track to pass by the Philippine capital on Tuesday morning.

The adverse weather has also resulted in the cancellation of Etihad Airways flights EY424 and EY428 from Abu Dhabi to Manila, and the return flights EY423 and EY421 from Manila to Abu Dhabi, December 3,

“The latest status of these flights is available on etihad.com. Etihad Airways is monitoring the situation and will provide continuous updates. Affected guests will be assisted with their onward connections,” an Etihad Airways told Khaleej Times.

“We regret the inconvenience caused by these delays. The safety of our guests and crew is Etihad Airways’ highest priority. For further information, please call the Etihad Airways Contact Centre on +971 600 555 666, visit etihad.com, or our mobile app. Guests in the Philippines can contact our local contact centre on 02 7792 6044 for further information,” the Abu-Dhabi based carrier added.

Philippine flag carrier, Philippine Airlines, also announced the cancellation of its PR 658/659 flight Manila-Dubai-Manila on Tuesday.

Manila-based Cebu Pacific flight 5J014 Manila-Dubai on Tuesday and 5J015 Dubai-Manila (Wednesday) will be delayed by more than six hours.

The airline’s 5J014 flight from Manila to Dubai on Tuesday was moved from 3.20pm to 9.55pm, while the Dubai to Manila trip (5J015) was moved from 11.25pm to 5.45am the next day.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) officials said the flights are subject to extended delays depending on the strength of the typhoon. As a precautionary measure, the terminals at NAIA will be closed on Tuesday from 11am to 11pm (Philippine time) or 7am to 7pm (UAE time).

Airport officials said they made the call based on the forecast of intense rains and sustained winds of up to 165km per hour as well as gusts of up to 230km per hour. When flight operations resume, scheduled flights will be prioritized, followed by recovery flights that had prior approval from the MIAA.
