The emergency services found the dog waiting at the man’s side when they arrived.

The after-effects of Storm Ciara continue to batter the UK as strong winds caused a tree to fall on a dog-walker, in his 60s, killing him on the spot. While the dog was not injured in the incident, it did not leave his owner’s side and emergency services had to take the pet away.

According to reports in Mirror.co.uk, the man had been walking with his dog in Black Woods near Woolton Road, Liverpool, on Tuesday when he was hit by a falling tree. Emergency services found the dog waiting at the man’s side when they arrived, Liverpool Echo reported.

The deceased man’s identity was ascertained with the pet’s microchip following which his kin were informed about the tragedy.

Liverpool City Council spokesperson said: “A man in his 60s has died after apparently being struck by a falling branch at Black Wood in Woolton during the high winds. The emergency services remain at the scene and the area is expected to remain cordoned off for some time.”

This is second such death caused due to Storm Ciara as a 58-year-old man died earlier after a tree fell on his car in Hampshire, reported BBC, while adding a new storm Dennis is expected to hit parts of the UK this weekend.

Storm Dennis could cause flooding, wind gusts of more than 60mph and heavy rain, the Met Office said.
