Looks like Star Wars’ first-ever live-action television series is going to be a slam dunk.
Critics caught a glimpse of Disney+’s The Mandalorian — due in November — at a Disney-hosted press event on Saturday, and they shared their initial reactions with fans via social media.
Although these critics saw only 27 minutes of footage, comprised of disjointed scenes edited together to avoid spoilers, many felt confident in vouching for the show. Seemingly a dream Star Wars addition, The Mandalorian aims to answer long-held questions about the franchise, while expanding upon the universe in inventive style.
Created by The Lion King (2019) director Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal, The Mandalorian takes place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, centering on a Mandalorian bounty hunter stationed at the outer reaches of the New Republic (the government that forms after the Empire falls).
Here’s what critics are saying (so far) about The Mandalorian, premiering Nov. 12 on Disney+.
The Mandalorian answers long-held Star Wars questions
Saw 27 minutes of @themandalorian. It’s as awesome as you want it to be. Can’t say anything specific but one scene answered a question that I don’t think has ever been explained/shown in any @starwars movie. Love that it opens up the Star Wars universe in a cool new way. pic.twitter.com/vTxC427sVi

Just watched close to 25 minutes of footage from #TheMandalorian. It’s very cool and atmospheric – sometimes evoking the vibe of Rogue One (which I adore). The title character is instantly fascinating and there are great action and suspense moments, including some Predator vibes
