The authorities urged public to avoid social gatherings and follow social distancing guidelines.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday announced 994 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, as well as 1,043 recoveries.

MoHAP also reported four deaths today.

The new cases were detected through 50,000 more tests.

The total number of cases as on May 22 are 27,892, while recoveries are at 13,798. The death toll stands at 241.

The ministry called upon the public to adhere to health guidelines and instructions from the relevant authorities during Eid Al Fitr, particularly concerning social distancing, for the sake of the health and safety of all.

In a virtual press conference on Thursday, Humaid Al Qutami, Director General of Dubai Health Authority said that the increase in the number of Covid-19 infections is not a matter of concern and the country’s healthcare system is well prepared for all emergency situations.

“The increase in the number of cases is normal. We are continuously carrying tests and as part of the policy of the UAE government, mass screening is conducted, especially in high-risk areas such as labour accommodations.” Al Qutami said during the virtual press briefing.

The ministry has also launched a nationwide campaign to encourage people to download the UAE’s official Covid-19 testing and contact tracing app – AlHosn UAE. The app also provides residents with access to their test results and a health colour coding system that identifies and allows individuals that are free from Covid-19 disease to access public spaces.

The UAE government authorities have called upon residents to be responsible this Eid and avoid family gatherings. This year’s Eid Al Fitr prayer will be performed at home to ensure safety, as mosques across the country will remain closed due to the precautionary measures to contain the spread of Covid-19. The authorities urged public to avoid social gatherings and follow social distancing guidelines.

While, most of the hypermarkets and supermarkets across Dubai will remain open as usual, leading grocery chains have confirmed.
