Coronavirus: UAE reports 1,002 Covid-19 cases, 942 recoveries, 1 death – News

The UAE has conducted over 9 million tests till date.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Thursday reported 1,002 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 942 recoveries. One death was also reported.

As many as 93,618 new Covid-19 tests were carrried out, the ministry added.

On Wednesday, the country witnessed an alarming rise in Covid-19 infections that touched a new high of 1,083, the highest single-day increase recorded in the country. This is the second time that daily Covid cases have crossed the 1,000 mark, making yesterday’s cases the highest-ever recorded in the country. In July and August, the country had marked a drop in the number of cases by 21 per cent. The country also saw its Covid mortality rate go down by 5.7 per cent.

At 0.5 per cent, the country has one of the lowest death rates in the world. It also has among the highest recovery rates in the world at 90 per cent.

According to authorities, the country witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases in recent days mainly because of non-compliance to precautionary measures outlined by the country. Wearing masks, physical distancing and maintaining good hand hygiene top the list of anti-Covid measures. Stressing the need for rigorous adherence to preventive measures, the authorities stressed that the law pertaining to precautionary measures will be strictly enforced and fines will be imposed in accordance with the list of penalties for violating preventive guidelines issued by the UAE Cabinet. Inspections will be intensified, and anyone failing to comply with rules and preventive guidelines will be subject to fines.
