Quarantine period in the country has been extended to 30 days instead of the recommended 14-day period.

A North Korean trade official was arrested and shot dead for visiting a public bath while he was placed in quarantine after travelling to coronavirus-hit China.

According to Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reports quoted in Daily Mail, the official was placed in isolation over risk of spreading the coronavirus and was shot after he failed to comply. Although there have been no cases of the Covid-9, North Korea has taken stringent steps to ensure there the deadly infection does not spread over its border with China.

Following a decree by leader Kim Jong-un, military law has been imposed in North Korea to enforce the lock down and government institutions and foreigners were expected to obey it ‘unconditionally’, North Korean media said.

In addition to this, capital Pyongyang announced that quarantine period had been extended to 30 days instead of the recommended 14-day period.
