These measures are in line with taking extra caution in the interest of the public.

The Dubai Metro has today implemented stringent measures on limiting ridership, to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

These measures are in line with taking extra caution in the interest of the public.

Metro commuters queued outside the station this morning, as they stood impatiently, confused, trying to comprehend the reason for the serpentine lines.

Meanwhile the RTA has confirmed in a statement, that “each train will be limited to a total of 138 passengers (seating capacity) and 72 passengers on each tram and staff will be deployed on platforms to monitor the occupancy and report to OCC.”

Additional measures apparently include closure of travellators, minimum use of escalators and elevators for people of determination only.

One of the main stations affected by the recent implementation this morning, that saw long queues of people waiting outside was Al Rigga Metro station.

The general public has also taken to Twitter expressing their concerns in several messages that they posted:

“I am not quite sure if there were announcements made for @DubaiMetro
 but seeing this situation this morning just literally blew my mind. Social distancing inside the train has been implemented by limiting passengers but see how this line outside just to get inside.
@rta_dubai”

“Same experience here. A prior notice would have helped so I could leave home earlier than usual. Once you’re inside the station, there is another queue”
