Bouts have been confirmed for Abu Dhabi’s upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Thanks to a partnership between the UFC and Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the capital is set to host UFC events for the next five years.
The action kicks off on 7th September with UFC 242 at du Arena on Yas Island, after a week of workouts, weigh-ins and live entertainment.
Each event promises at least one championship match and tickets are selling fast for the opening night.
Going head-to-head for the first fight are UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and American fighter Dustin Poirier. Russian mixed martial artist Nurmagomedov returns to UFC for the first time after a ban following a brawl between his teammates and rival Conor McGregor.
Three other fights are settled for the main card: Islam Makhachev vs Davi Ramos, Curtis Blaydes vs Shamil Abdurakhimov and Mairbek Taisumov vs Diego Ferreira.
Speaking previously about the partnership, UFC president Dana White said: “We are making a long-term commitment to Abu Dhabi because we have had great success in that market.
“The demand from our fans to bring UFC back to Abu Dhabi has been overwhelming, and over the next five years, DCT Abu Dhabi will help us deliver some spectacular UFC championship fights to the UAE.”
