Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat was appointed president of the party’s Maharashtra unit , replacing former chief minister Ashok Chavan in the latest reshuffle in the party ranks.
The appointment comes ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections due later this year.
“The Hon’ble Congress President has approved the proposal of appointment of President, Working Presidents for the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee,” read the official letter signed by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal. The letter named Thorat as president and listed five more names as working presidents.
However, what caught the people’s attention was that the appointments, as stated in the latter, were made by “Congress president”adding to the confusion as Rahul Gandhi has stated clearly that he is no longer the party president and even went public with his resignation letter on July 3.
