Reem Island is the setting for the initiative’s first event on 17th October… there’ll be kites, lots of them.
We can feel a Mary Poppins’ song coming on (Let’s Go Fly a Kite... just in case you’re wondering)
But seriously, Reem Central Park on Al Reem Island is the setting for Abu Dhabi Moments‘ first ever event, taking place from 17th October.
The three-day event, lasting until Saturday, 19th October, featuring colourful kites created by 25 kite master runners, is absolutely free.
All the fun starts at 4pm and lasts till midnight.
Not only will visitors get to see kites flying high, but they will also be able to participate in workshops on the art of kite making
It doesn’t stop there!
The sky is not the limit as guests are invited to hop on hot air balloons to see the kites flying up close and get a bird’s eye view of Al Reem Island and the surrounding mangroves.
Don’t worry if you haven’t got a head for heights (we haven’t!), because there’s a lot of activities happening on the ground too.
These include live performances, arts and crafts, and a supervised play area for tiny tots up to three years old.
Abu Dhabi Moments is an initiative by the Department of Community Development and part of the Abu Dhabi Accelerated Development Programme Ghadan 21.
The programme aims to celebrate cultural diversity in the community through family friendly activities.
Five districts of the city have been earmarked by the programme and, apart from Al Reem Island, include Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Bateen, Al Hudayriat Island and Downtown Abu Dhabi.
