‘The aim of this trip is for the UAE to be one of the best countries in the world’

Eid Al Adha was different yet special in the UAE on Friday. Different, because
of the pandemic. Special, because the UAE Mars probe is cruising towards the Red Planet at 121,000km/hour.

And fittingly, the nation’s leaders on Friday marked Eid with a grand reception in honour of the Emirates Mars Mission team at Qasr Al Watan Palace in Abu Dhabi.

The reception was hosted by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, along with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and
Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

“I would like to thank my brother Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, who made this holiday a different day. A holiday in which the loyal people of the country
are celebrated.”

“After all the tiredness, it is necessary to rest. After every achievement, we must celebrate. After every duty we perform, we must rejoice. Today is a day of joy on a
great Emirati achievement. A feast for the team and a feast for the people of the UAE. And a day we thank you for the efforts of six years,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“I tell the team that the journey has begun. A great journey. But the journey is still in its infancy. The aim of this trip is for the UAE to be one of the best countries in the world.”

Sheikh Mohammed said he is optimistic and sure of the UAE’s future. “Because, we in the UAE do what we say and say what we do.”

“The successful launch of the Hope probe is an achievement that embodies the leadership of the UAE and its ability to enhance the Arab role in astronomy and space
science,” said Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, who conveyed the greetings of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to the Emirates Mars
Mission team.

“We are proud of you, because you are an honourable model for Emirati youth that we want to be the best, most knowledgeable, developed and qualified. You have
provided a positive image of Emirati and Arab youth to the world and you and your brothers are our real and winning bet.”

Meanwhile, across the country, festivities were largely subdued as many residents preferred to remain indoors.

Despite restrictions and low-key events, residents like Hamed Atef Mohamed, a student, said the festival is the “best day” for his family.
