The errant firms were identified during inspection campaigns carried out in 255 construction sites.

Five construction firms in Abu Dhabi were fined and warnings issued to 35 others for flouting safety rules laid down by the municipality.

The errant firms were identified during inspection campaigns carried out in 255 construction sites in Abu Dhabi and on the city outskirts, the Abu Dhabi Municipality said.

The campaigns aimed at ensuring that consultants and contractors adhere to the approved Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements at construction sites. The drives also monitored the safe disposal of construction waste and the steps taken for the safety of neighbouring buildings.
The fines and warnings were issued to violating firms in the building and construction sector for failing to comply with the conditions and standards that must be observed at construction sites, said the civic body.

The municipal inspectors also made a number of observations and spelt out directives aimed at improving health and safety of workers on the site.

Municipal officials have urged all contractors and consultants to take preventive measures and abide by the EHS standards in order to maintain the safety of employees, protect their lives and mitigate potential hazards at workplace.
