Global Village is back

Peggy Gou

The effortlessly cool Peggy Gou returns to Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE on Friday with a flow of mixes that will have the energy poppin’. Gou has risen through the DJ ranks over the years, with her song It Makes You Forget being a firm favourite of 2018. The Berlin-based Korean talent can’t be missed.

Asia calling

Mark your calendars for a unique evening of culture and entertainment, arriving from the central Asian countries of Russia and Kazakhstan at the International Festival ‘Kalinka’, taking place on Friday, from 7pm – 11pm at Sharjah’s unique outdoor destination, The Flag Island.

A special launch

Fans of intense dramas and witty comedies are going to love Apple TV+ launching November 1. We can’t wait to have a gander at the shows everyone is talking about including See with Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard and The Morning Show, a cutthroat drama starring and executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, and starring Steve Carell.

Friendly dinner

Ask anyone in Dubai what is their favourite thing to do, it would no doubt be having “Dinner with Friends”. South Parade in association with Tall Tales production presents Dinner with Friends, written by Donald Margulies playing November 1 and 2 at The Junction in Alserkal. Check bookmyshow.ae

Abri & Funk

Everyone’s go-to for some melt-in-your-mouth flame grilled meat, Joe’s Backyard, is set to welcome Abri & Funk Radius to serenade you with their party-starting covers at the Caribbean style Halloween evening brunch tonight from 8pm. Expect a few scares, but overall some great tunes and food.

Jason Derulo

When it comes to attracting the biggest acts on the planet, BASE always delivers, and this weekend is no different as superstar Jason Derulo is set to hit the stage on Friday night. There’s free entry for the first 100 ladies (Dhs100 after), along with free Ladies’ Night drinks until 1am.

Kanika in Abu Dhabi

Yas Island will transform this weekend for the biggest celebration of the festival of lights: the Yas Mega Mela until November 2 at the du Arena. Join the three-day event featuring Bollywood music sensations Kanika Kapoor tonight followed by Ankit Tiwari on Friday. We spoke to Kanika to find out more.

What do you have planned for the Yas Mega Mela?

My team and I have been planning a new set, with a mashup of songs from the ’80s, ’90s and the 2000s. I am thrilled to see the confluence of Middle East and the Indian culture. The city’s hospitable nature makes me feel at home.

What is your best performance memory?

In Durban, South Africa. It was a big concert and there was a moment where I became emotional and so did the 7,000 people. All the torches were up and it was quite a beautiful moment where I connected with everybody in that room.

With whom would you most like to collaborate and why?

It is a dream to collaborate with Adele or Taylor Swift but given a choice, I would have loved to collaborate with Manna Dey or even Abida Parveen as I have grown up listening to their songs.

If you were throwing a celebrity dinner party, who would you invite and why?

It would have Girija Devi, Shubha Mudgal, Amitabh Bachchan and Javed Akhtar. They have seen life. Their souls are very pure and the conversation would be unbelievable.
