They were planning to smuggle the drugs into a neighbouring country.
Abu Dhabi Police have seized 1.2 million narcotic pills from a seven-member gang. All Asian suspects were under police radar for the past four months as they used to move between the emirates, a top cop said on Tuesday explaining about the operations.
Colonel Taher Gharib Al Dhaheri, Director of the Abu Dhabi Police Anti-Narcotics Directorate, said it was the arrest of the first suspect with 120,000 narcotic pills and further investigation that led to the others. The second arrest was a suspect who played a key role in the network of illegal activity. He used to handle the purchase and sale of drugs. He was held with 15,000 pills. However, the arrest exposed an entire network of organised crime from drug peddlers and buyers and subsequently seizure of a large haul of narcotic pills, which they were planning to smuggle into a neighbouring country.
Al Dhaheri noted that smuggling and sale of drugs is considered an organised crime. The Anti-Narcotics Directorate called on members of the community to collaborate with police and report any information related to drug activity and lead to their arrest by calling phone number 800 26 26.
